Resurgence

Yesterday I was suprised to find a huge amount of hits on two of my early images, both showcasing 60′s/70′s architecture. I’m still not sure why there is such an interest in these two pictures but I thank you anyway…

Both images were taken in the summer of 2005 with my IPAQ rx3000, hence the lower quality. (1.2 mp).

The University of Manchester’s “MATHS TOWER”, was taken a few months before it’s demolition in 2005. The “LANCASTER SERVICES 1″ was taken a year before it was renovated, or certainly repainted in 2006.

Each image is accompanied by a picture from 2006, showing the evolution or destruction of each structure.

Christmas In Manchester 2005

This is a Set was taken back in 2005 with my Vivitar 3765, hence the poorer quality. I like these images as they show a Manchester of change. The first picture is simple and shows Manchester’s Town Hall. 

The following images are of the first Christmas in the ‘then’ newly refurbished Manchester Arndale Centre. To make the best use of the empty space at the time, they placed this modern display there. Now, four years on, the centre is full of shops and there is little room for such an elaborate display.

This is a collection of images which feature people caught by the camera.

The first is the Albert Dock in Liverpool.

This is from a set which I call “The Elusive Photographer”

Taken in Manchester, near G-Mex.

Sunset on the promanade at Llandudno, North Wales.

This is one of my latest favorites.  The fact that the figure is pin sharp and the world he is looking upon is blury yet somewhat recognisable seems to be a great metaphor for life. Or is it just me! LOL!

Again, taken at the Albert Dock in Liverpool, this image demonstrates how Health & Safety has even managed to  break it’s way into the  seafareing industry! Also, that the fantastic Radio City tower has just crept in, in the background and is slightly out of focus.

Building Of An Icon: 2005 – 2008

Starting a couple of years I go, I decided to follow the construction of various buildings in Manchester. Manchester is a growing city now, ever since the IRA bomb in 1996, and Beetham Tower, AKA the Hilton has to stand as one of the most prominent examples of this.

November 2005

Unfortunatly, I did start this project until the tower was well underway, but this is the first real image that I have. All these pictures are available on Flickr.

This was taken with my Vivitar 3765,  F. 2.9

December 2005, the outer skin has been completed on the lower floors, and now the upper levels are well underway.

Still in late December 2005, this beautiful clear day provides the perfect lighting to show the construction of the floors. After the outer skin has been fitted, the more extensive work of fitting out the interior can begin.

Now in March 2006, The outer contruction is well on the way to completion.

May 2008: The finished article. Completed in late 2006, this is now the tallest building in Manchester and can been seen for miles around, dominating the skyline.

Hilton By Day

This is a shot of the Beetham Tower, AKA the Hilton in Manchester, England. You can see the overhanging part of the structure, just right of the Hilton sign. That is the glass floor of the Cloud 23; A rather pricey but I’m told great bar in the city.

This was taken with my Kodak Z740 5mp, at a focal lenth 6.3mm, F.4.
